A Day with My Son

Last week because of a couple of late nights at the church I hardly got to see my son a couple of days. So I decided to make yesterday a father-son day. I took him to Home Depot (which he loves) with me to buy a few things for the church. Then we bought lunch and went to the church and ate in the cafe. A had a couple of small jobs that needed to be done so we set out to change a light bulb and fix two of the drain pipes connected to gutters on the Ministry Center Building.

He held tools for me, held the door for me so I could carry out the ladder, and I explained to him everything I was doing. (How many times do we tell our kids to do things and let them help us but don't take the time to teach?) The point was just to be together. There is no substitute for time with your kids.

We ended the night by going to a Southern Wesleyan basketball game. We took his small basketball and got to run around on the court during halftime and after the game. He loves doing that. The highlight of the night for him was when Deonte (a former SWU basketball player) lifted him up and he shot his basketball thorough the hoop. Wish you could have seen his face. The highlight of the day for me...spending time with my son and seeing him smile.

Here are a few pictures from Katie's baby dedication last night. I would like to thank Apostle's Ron and Hope Carpenter for dedicating Katie. You can read more about her dedication in the comments section from the post announcing the dedication service. I would also like to say a special thank you to those who took the time to come to the service. It meant a lot to us.

Katie's Dedication

Tomorrow night (Wednesday) Katie is going to be dedicated at Redemption World Outreach Center in Greenville.  The service starts at 7pm and Apostle Ron will dedicate Katie after the praise and worship, before the preaching.

We would be honored if you would come be a part of this special service.  If you would like to sit in the designated seating, please email us as soon as possible!  Sorry for the late notice but we did not have confirmation of the details until today. We will have pictures later this week.

My Trip to the Doctor's Office

Today I had to go to the doctor's office to get blood drawn for a physical. Here are a few thoughts from the visit:

  • First my appointment was at 8:15 and it was 9:00 AM before they called me back. How do you get 45 minutes behind by 8:15. Several people came in after me and were called back for blood work. I think they forgot about me. It took like two minutes after I was called back.
  • It was cold in the waiting room. Last time I checked sick people visit the doctor's office. That means a lot of them may have a fever. Looks like they could afford to turn the heat up.
  • The good: They had WLFJ on in the waiting room. The bad: It was not on the station very good and had a lot of static.

OK, that's my rant. What is your worst doctor's office experience? Oh yea...I don't like seeing blood pouring out of my arm.

Making Moments with Your Family

Pastor Parsley talked to us about this one. No matter what your schedule looks like or how busy you are take the time to make moments with your family. Tonight was one of those occasions. I had an Advisory Team meeting tonight and I told Alisha in advance that if it snowed early I wanted to take Seth out in it after I got home because the forecast called for freezing rain or rain in the morning. If you are from around here you know we don't receive much snow if any.

That is what we did. Though it was late and cold we bundled up and went outside and played in the show for almost an hour. I think we came in at 10:30 PM. We had a ball. We threw snowballs, made snow angels, rolled down the hill, slid on the slide, you name it. Whatever he wanted to do we did it. I wish you could have heard the laughs.

The point is this. No matter how much time you have make a special moment with your kids or family. Go to the park, take them outside, spend some quality time on the floor with them or take them out in the snow at midnight. Make it special moment, make them the focus. It will do wonders for your relationship and you will be glad that you did it.

Christmas Thoughts

Here are a few thought from Christmas 2007...

  • It is more blessed to give than to receive.
  • I love being a parent and seeing my children blessed. I wonder how God feels when His children are blessed.
  • Family is important. Never take them for granted.
  • My wife bought me a Zune. She though it was an ipod  but guess what, it's better!!!

Hope you had a great Christmas. What was your favorite gift?
